The President of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, and the President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Núria de Gispert, will lead a number of official events in commemoration of the National Day of Catalonia. Please see below for event details.
Tuesday, September 9
18:30 CET. Parliament of Catalonia.
The President will participate in the presentation of the Parliament of Catalonia Medal of Honor (Gold Medal) to tenor Josep Carreras. The award ceremony will conclude with remarks by the President of the Parliament of Catalonia and President Mas.
Wednesday, September 10
20:00 CET. Fossar de les Moreres Memorial Plaza.
The President of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, the President of Parliament, Núria de Gispert, and the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias, will lay a wreath at the memorial in Fossar de les Moreres plaza in tribute to the heroes of 11 September 1714. The plaza, located next to the Basilica of Santa María del Mar in the Born neighborhood, is a highly symbolic location covering a communal grave for the city’s fallen defenders following the Siege of Barcelona. The plaza today features a torch of eternal flame as a symbol of never-ending respect for those fallen heroes.
20:30 CET. Casa Llotja de Mar.
The President of the Generalitat, Artur Mas, and the President of the Parliament of Catalonia, Núria de Gispert, will lead the official commemorative act for the 1714 Tricentennial (1714-2014). Directed by Josep Maria Mestres, the evening event will combine text, music and history to examine Catalonia’s past, present, and future.

Due to limited space, television broadcasters will not have direct access to the sites where the events will take place.
- Photography: There will be two separate designated areas for photographers in Fossar de les Moreres memorial plaza. These areas will be fixed and moving between areas will not be permitted during the event. There will be a platform for photographers at Casa Llotja de Mar. Photos will also be available through the Presidential Department Press Office following the two events.
- Radio: Radio broadcasters will be able to access audio of both events from the press room in Casa Llotja de Mar, which will have a streaming feed (audio and video) of both events.

The President of the Generalitat will make his official National Day of Catalonia commemorative address from the Salón Sant Jordi in the Palau de la Generalitat.
Thursday, September 11
08:00 CET. Plaza Comercial, Born Cultural Center.
Coinciding with the moment on 11 September 1714 when Bourbon forces captured Raphael Casanova, the commander in chief and highest political representative of Barcelona, 300 violinists will perform a symbolic act of resistance with poetry, music and song. The event will be led by the President of the Generalitat and the President of Parliament, accompanied by the Mayor of Barcelona, Xavier Trias.

President Artur Mas will lead members of the Government in laying a wreath at the monument to Rafael Casanova.
10:00 CET. Palau de la Generalitat.
The President of the Generalitat will hold a press conference for international news correspondents. News media interested in covering this event must be accredited in advance by the Presidential Department Press Office before 20:00 CET on Tuesday, September 9. To obtain a press pass, please send an e-mail to premsa.president@gencat.cat indicating correspondent’s first and last name, DNI, job title, and name of media organization. Press passes will be given based on the order in which requests for them are received until all available space has been filled.
19:30 CET. Palau de la Generalitat.
The President of the Generalitat will receive leaders from the Catalan National Assembly and Òmnium Cultural, the two groups organizing the V demonstration on September 11, at the Palau de la Generalitat. The meeting will be private but there will be an opportunity to take photos at the beginning. Prior accreditation will be required in order to enter the Palau.
