Twenty-four European regions from nine different member states ask to be included in the EU decision-making of the post-COVID recovery

Twenty-four regions from nine different European member states sent a joint letter to Ursula von der Leyen, Charles Michel, David Sassoli, Angela Merkel, António Costa, and Janez Jansa to express their commitment “to undertake joint efforts to strengthen the role of regions in EU decision-making related to the post-COVID recovery”.

All these European regions call upon decision-makers “to be involved in EU recovery discussions at the highest level” in order “to be actively included in the design and implementation of the Recovery and Resilience Facility and the national plans adopted thereunder”.

The signatory regions are Åland Islands, Baden-Württemberg, Balearic Islands, Basque Country, Bavaria, Bjelovar-Bilogora County, Bolzano-Bozen / South Tyrol, Catalonia, Emilia-Romagna, Flanders, Hessen, Krapina-Zagorje County, Koprivnica-Križevci County, Lazio, Lower Austria, Medjimurje County, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, Occitanie, Tyrol, Valencia, Varazdin County, Voralberg, Wallonia and Wielkopolska.   

The signatory regions also sent the letter to the head of government of their member state.
